I am being asked to cite "the plural of anecdote is data"!
I figured that was one of those sayings you could just toss in but apparently not. Good thing a little googling will get that citation for you, although I feel a little silly.

I more often hear it as "the plural of anecdote is NOT data".
ReplyDeleteOC, anecdotes are not data.
DeleteAnecdotes suffer from selection bias. (OTOH, so does some economic data, as we have learned recently.)
At the same time, anecdotes are richer than data. We need to make sense of data, and anecdotes can help us to do that.
I think this is among the so much vital information for me.
