MAD question

Does anyone know a good, authoritative account of von Neumann's role in the development of the idea of mutually assured destruction? I can google - just curious if anyone is personally aware of one they got a lot out of.

    I believe that Herman Kahn (of the RAND Corporation) may be interesting to look at for his contributions to MAD using game theory.
