Out of curiosity (yuk yuk), who thinks there is life on Mars right now?

      I am not too worried by the Great Filter... I think its pretty speculative. Maybe I'll post on that in the near future though. Thanks for sharing it here.

    What energy source without producing oxygen or using oxygen? Unlikely unless dormant.

      Still needs an energy source. One might guess some sort of underground hot springs or a radioactive source, perhaps a narrow niche like that antarctic lake. Anywhere else would almost have to be dormant without an energy source or liquid medium to activate it. No photosynthesis.
