... the day William and Mary received it's charter from (surprise! surprise!) King William and Queen Mary. It was the second institution of higher education in the United States, the alma mater of Thomas Jefferson and John Marshall, and over a dozen signers of the Declaration of Independence. More recent alumni include Christine Romer and Jon Stewart. William and Mary was the first school in the New World to teach political economy. We have Governor Jefferson to thank for that.
