Is it just me, or is Gary Weiss's qualified endorsement of Ayn Rand basically an endorsement of the parts of Ayn Rand that every non-Randian in the liberal tradition already thought?
And if that's the case - who really needs Ayn Rand? That's not an argument to drop her if you like her, of course. It's just the point I made when the movie came out - you don't have to give Rand the thumbs up just because you also happen to believe in capitalism and self-interestedness, and you really shouldn't act like she's the only place to go for those things.
I think she's insane, but what's even more insane is the people who think her philosophy is the only ethical defense of libertarianism.
