Interestingly enough, an English professor and National Review columnist, Joseph Sobran (RIP), was very passionate in his arguments against what he called Darwinism.
I don't think Charles Darwin was ever even a philosopher or pretended to be, but Joe Sobran believed Darwin's alleged philosophy sharply contradicted human nature, because his theory seemed to imply competition rather than cooperation among human beings. He even declared Darwinism to supposedly be a precursor to Marxism, because he thought it was a way of making a sweeping generalization about thousands of years of history. It's true for Marxism, sure, but I found it to be a strange criticism of the theory of evolution.
But in fact, even Very Gradual Change can not easily be believed in, since Sobran's argument about how it's hard for a being that lives only 80 years to make a statement about what happens across thousands of years is not entirely invalid either. But it's as good an argument against creationism as well, so...
Hahahaha.
