Not sure why I'm sharing this except (1.) I'm bummed out and it's cathartic to share with friends, and (2.) unbeknownst to all of you, three quarters of the posts I've written were written with this little lady in my lap - so she kind of feels like a part of the blog. Our cat's been sick (cancer) for a couple weeks now - she took a turn for the worse during the day today and seemed in enough pain that we decided to put her down. It feels good to have a yard that she can rest in, it was nice to have the couple weeks, and the process seemed very quick and painless.
R.I.P. Chloe.
As you can see, she liked to get into places she didn't belong.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what it is, but it seems that a lot of people that I am acquainted with are losing their cats lately. A good friend from childhood had to put his cat Woody down about a month ago (Woody was the awesomest of awesome cats). Robb Wolf, somebody who I look to for info on dietetics/physiology, lost his cat Keystone to a coyote. Now you had to put your little girl down.
ReplyDeleteI've always been an animal person, and while dogs are my preference, I dig cats, too. It is always hard to lose a good pet. In most cases, it can never be said that they didn't live a good life, and that is often what makes it easier.
How old was she?
My buddy just lost his cat to organ failure... he took care of it for 10 years with daily insulin shots that kept him from ever taking a road trip, along with special food that he prepared that kept it (remarkably) healthy.
ReplyDeleteI could never have put in the time and money that he did.
I'm very sorry for your loss, Daniel. I've never had a cat, but my wife and I have two "canine children," and lost one last Christmas Eve. It is never easy to say goodbye, even when you're doing the truly humane thing for her. They truly are members of the family, and again, I'm sorry you had to say goodbye to such a cherished companion.
ReplyDeleteThough I may be a dog person, I feel sorry for your loss. The loss of a pet is never a good thing.
ReplyDeleteI used to own two dogs (separate from the one I own now); one of them passed away on her own and the other I put down. It's a very difficult thing to do. And it's not strange to post about it; Tom Palmer stopped blogging for months when his cat died.
ReplyDeleteMy condolences.
ReplyDeleteCondolences. Your cat looks a lot like mine did.
ReplyDeleteHi Daniel,
ReplyDeleteIt's too bad cats and dogs don't live as long as we do. I'm so sorry about your cat.
Quick and painless is definitely the way to go. That's how I'm hoping/planning to go myself.
